Special agents in the FBI might spend their days on their feet chasing down bad guys or on their butts filing paperwork sitting behind a desk. But for the first time in 16 years, the bureau is requiring all special agents take a physical fitness test. (New recruits have always been required to pass a similar physical fitness test at the FBI Academy.)
The tests were reinstated by the bureau in an effort to promote fitness at a time when its agents are busier—and more stressed—than every before, and the results will be a part of each agent's yearly performance review. The FBI doesn’t expect its agents to perform Jack Bauer-like feats (like his apparent ability to never sleep), though. This fitness test includes sit-ups, push-ups, a 300-meter sprint, and a 1.5-mile run. Minimum requirements are set based upon age and gender. The hardest part is that agents only have five-minute breaks between each exercise on the fitness test.
